Digital Projector

Currently most demonstrations are done using a combination of whiteboard and TV monitor to show students how to perform certain tasks on the computers in front of them. The television set allows students to see what the instructor is doing on the main computer but is too small to allow the words on the screen to be read from across the room. A projection system would be one of the most useful additions to the lab but unfortunately is not possible under our current budget. The prices of these projectors continue to decrease but currently average around $1,000.

Network Hardware

The amount of hardware and software in the lab continues to increase and we are looking for secure places to store the smaller pieces when they are not in use. This need is a combination of security and storage, allowing us to keep our facility clean and our materials safe.

Lab Attendant Stipend

We currently teach classes once a week and our students try to remember the information for 7 days until our next class. It would be wonderful if we were able to open the lab at a designated time once a week, in addition, where students and others from the community could come in and practice or surf the web if they do not have computers at home. To do this we are hoping to give a small stipend to someone other than our volunteer instructors who can give some assistance to those that need it.

Vista Compatible Computers

Currently the lab operates entirely on Microsoft Windows operating systems but due to the varying specifications of donated computers they are not all on the same operating system. The different Windows OS’s are similar enough that we can teach classes using the different versions. One goal of ours is to have every computer running the most recent operating system available so that students are trained on up-to-date equipment and our instructors can focus more on teaching and less on maintenance.
